Privacy Policy
About this revision: We clarified the explanation of payment information and synced data. There are no changes to how data is handled.
1. What the app stores
Dimity handles the records and settings you enter or select, along with information needed for storage and sync. This includes:
- The name of each entry and its start and end date and time
- The names, colors, and on/off settings of your ratings
- The values you enter for each entry (0–10)
- Notes you optionally write
- Photos you optionally attach
- Record creation and modification dates, record identifiers, and information used to manage sync state
Dimity has no account registration. There is no screen that asks for your name or email address, and no functionality that reads advertising identifiers or your location.
2. Photos
The app receives a photo only when you pick one in the iOS photo picker. It never reads your photo library as a whole.
A photo you pick is lightly processed when saved: it is downscaled so its longer side is at most 2048px and re-encoded as HEIC or JPEG, and a small 264px-square thumbnail is created for list views. During this re-encoding, image metadata such as EXIF and GPS is not carried over — the location where a photo was taken is not stored. The visible content of the photo itself (what people and places look like) is kept as is.
Photos are stored, like your entries, in the app's own storage area on your device. They are not shown in widgets and are not included in PDF or CSV exports.
In Settings, you can check how many photos are stored and how much space they use. You can also delete photos — one at a time or in bulk — while keeping the entries themselves.
3. Calendar import
The app reads your calendar only when you choose to import from the log screen. iOS shows its permission screen at that point, and if you allow access, the app reads — on the device — the events that start on the day you are viewing. The list shown before import contains each event's title, start and end date and time, and calendar name.
The events you select are saved as independent entries. Only three things are saved: the title, the start date and time, and the duration. The original event's ID, location, attendees, meeting URLs, notes, and calendar name are not saved.
Dimity never writes to your calendar. There is no syncing with the original events, no automatic import, and no reading in the background.
4. Widgets and in-app purchases
To show your records in Home Screen widgets, a minimal set of data is placed in a shared storage area on your device. This shared area is used only by Dimity and its widgets. It contains the entry names, start and end times, and the names, colors, and values of your ratings for the current week or the last four hours. Notes and the main database (the SwiftData store) are never placed in the shared area. The shared files use iOS data protection.
The App Store processes payments. You do not enter payment details into Dimity, and Dimity does not store them. Purchase status is verified and managed on the device and is not sent to a developer server.
5. Where your data lives
Records and photos are stored in the app's private storage on your device. Sync is off by default. Only when you turn on device sync are record names, start and end times, rating values, notes, photos, rating settings, and information needed for sync sent to Apple's Private CloudKit for the same Apple Account. No developer server is involved. Appearance, widget purchase status, calendar import history, and welcome-screen status remain device-specific. Dimity Support does not collect records through the app, and Dimity uses no advertising, tracking, or usage analytics SDKs.
If Dimity detects an Apple Account change, it turns sync off and asks for confirmation before syncing records remaining on the device to the current account.
6. Backups
Storage containing record names, start and end times, rating values, notes, and photos is marked for exclusion from OS device backups. Device sync is separate from device backup. Records, photos, and rating settings already synced to iCloud are reflected on devices with sync enabled under the same Apple Account. Unsynced records cannot be restored to the app from device backups or PDF/CSV files.
App settings such as rating names, colors, and on/off states, on the other hand, may be included in the standard OS backup.
Note that the backup-exclusion flag is a request to the OS to treat the data as excluded; it is not a guarantee that the data will be excluded in every situation.
7. Sharing PDF and CSV files
You can export your records as a PDF or CSV. When you start a share from Settings, a file for the selected week is created temporarily and handed to the standard iOS share sheet. You choose where it goes. Photos are not included in either the PDF or the CSV.
Once shared, a file is handled under the privacy policy and terms of the service or app you sent it to. Dimity Support does not record where you shared a file and has no way to manage files after they are shared.
8. Retention and deletion
Records are stored on your device. When sync is on, changes and deletions made on other devices are also applied. What is removed depends on how you delete it.
- Deleting an entry also deletes the photo attached to it.
- Deleting only photos from Settings keeps the entry names, times, rating values, and notes.
- Deleting the app itself deletes all of the app's data on the device.
Turning sync off does not delete data on your device or in iCloud. Deleting the app leaves data already synced to iCloud intact. Deleting records or photos while syncing also deletes them on other syncing devices. If you delete Dimity's synced data in iCloud storage settings, devices that receive that deletion also remove their syncable data and turn sync off. If Apple resets encrypted data, local data is retained and synced again. Unsynced records cannot be restored by Dimity after a device change, device failure, or app deletion. Keep any PDF/CSV files or photos you need separately. You manage and delete shared or saved files at their destinations.
9. Security
Dimity uses iOS data protection, which is configured so that files it creates under protection cannot be accessed while the device is locked. This does not amount to a guarantee of complete security of the device or of any storage method.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the changes and a new revision date will be posted on this page. If the way data is handled changes in a substantive way, notice will also be given in the app or on the App Store as appropriate.
